Our Future

Steve's Priorities and Mission

“I grew up in and raised my 7th generation children in this city. My pride and love for Acworth drives me to ensure we maintain its small town charm while welcoming others through smart growth, affordability and a family-friendly environment.”

An Environmental Friendly City

  • Golf cart access within the city to connect residents to our downtown, the lake and trails for a ‘Greener’ method of transportation. Let’s reduce emissions, slow our pace, optimize parking, and enable more residents to enjoy the outdoors, our parks, shops, trails and beaches.

  • Maintaining Lake Acworth to ensure safe and enjoyable swimming and paddle sports. When Steve began volunteering on the Acworth Lake Authority thirty years ago, the lake and beaches were closed due to pollution. As Co-Chair, Steve assisted the Acworth Lake Authority in restoring the lake.  As Alderman, Steve will ensure it remains an asset to our ‘Lake City’ now and for future generations.

  • As a member of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, Steve has worked to develop a vision and plan for multiple parks and the expansion of usable green space including Logan Farm Park, Cauble Park, Acworth Sports Complex, Horizon Field, and the Acworth Community Center to ensure that residents have ample space with clean and safe areas to enjoy themselves.

  • An important part of Steve’s vision is that the trail systems around Acworth are multi-use so that pedestrians, bicycles and golf carts  all can utilize and share these resources.

  • As Alderman, Steve will explore a recycling initiative enhancing the current trash service to include an option for recycling pickup.

Infrastructure Maintenance and Expansion

  • As Alderman, Steve will focus on properly prioritizing the 2022 SPLOST funds for repairing streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure throughout Acworth. Updating and maintaining Acworth’s infrastructure will be a key focus throughout Steve’s term.

  • Creation of safe golf cart crossings to enable access to downtown and Lake Acworth for every neighborhood possible within the city.

  • Address the outdated stormwater and drainage issues causing erosion and damage to properties.  Runoff and erosion must be a priority for a community so close to a major lake and one that is part of the regions water supply.

  • Steve wants to establish an efficient way for residents to report potholes, street light outages, and other issues to expedite repairs and corrections.

Development

  • As a desirable destination and  growing population, Steve’s focus will be to promote ‘Smart Growth’ to provide affordable housing with an emphasis on our teachers and first responders so they have the opportunity to live in the community they serve. It is the consensus of the citizens of Acworth that we maintain the current look and feel of Acworth and Steve is in lockstep with our citizens on this subject.

  • Acworth has been discussing and planning completing a trail around Lake Acworth.  Steve will leverage his experience on the Acworth Lake Authority and the relationships developed from it to help make the trail become a reality. Now that the Hwy 92 bridge is complete and the old bridge is available, the city has the avenues needed to complete the trail.  This plan will involve updating Overlook Park, converting the old Hwy 92 bridge into a multi-use path, completing the trail around the south shore perimeter and connecting it back into Cauble Park. There is a trail plan currently being approved by the Army Corps of Engineers.  Steve will work to make this trail a priority with funding through SPLOST, shared projects with the county and state/federal grants.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Steve’s financial background as an executive responsible for a $50 million-dollar, global business gives him the experience and skill set  to understand budgets to help the city with managing expenses and income to ensure we maintain our strong fiscal structure and bond ratings.

  • As an Alderman, Steve will ensure that city finances are properly governed through responsible spending and accountability.
